Care

What does this research group do?

The Care research group studies the health status of the Dutch population and their use of care services. In addition, the research group carries out research on the living conditions and quality of life of older people and people with a disability or chronic disease. The research data are collected through both quantitative (records, surveys) and qualitative (focus groups) research.

Health and use of care

Differences in prosperity and lifestyle affect health and the use of health care provisions. Social trends such as population growth, immigration and population ageing also help explain differences in health care uptake between the Netherlands and other EU countries.

Care utilisation forecasts

SCP has developed a set of explanatory models for care for the elderly, care for the disabled and mental health care, with particular attention for informal care, housing and welfare provisions. Using these models, it draws up health care forecasts for the future use of health provisions.

Quality of life

The Care research group reports regularly on the living conditions and quality of life of older people and people with a disability or chronic disease.

Social Support Act

At the request of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, SCP conducts research on the Social Support Act (WMO). Focus areas include municipal policy, municipal services and the consequences for people with a disability or chronic disease.
