Original title: Variatie in participatie.

The four groups of ethnic minority women studied in this report follow the trend of increasing labour market participation. Some of them are however found still to lag (far) behind), while others now work more than the average. All ethnic groups have undergone change, but also retain some of their own lifestyle. This sometimes influences their participation in the labour market, and sometimes has no effect.

This report explores which factors help women into work and which throw up obstacles. Attention is given to the various migration backgrounds, the specific home situations of the women concerned and the differences in education level. Specific patterns are found in each group, which are described extensively. In addition, there are many correspondences between ethnic minority and indigenous women, though for the time being the distinguishing features dominate.

The final chapter places the findings against the background of policy. It explores which policy measures are needed to prevent some groups being left behind by mainstream policy.
