Original title: Vrij om te helpen.
Anyone combining paid work with caring for
relatives or close friends who need lots of help will quickly run out of
time. It is even possible that they will become overburdened due to the
effort of combining tasks. For this reason, the government is considering
the introduction of paid long-term care leave, which can be used by workers
who are already or are about to start providing a large amount of
care.
This report describes the daily lives of people who combine working with
care tasks and investigates which of them would be interested in paid
long-term care leave. It also contains estimates of the effects that such a
scheme could have on the informal care that is given in the Netherlands, on
the use that is made of home care services and on the burden placed on
working informal carers.
The results serve as input for the public debate on the desirability and
design of a long-term paid care leave scheme
