Original title: Ondersteuning gewenst.
There are more than one million adults in the
Netherlands with a long-term physical disability. They are inevitably less
mobile or find it difficult or even impossible to provide their own personal
care. Roughly half these people are aged 65 or older.
This report presents a picture of the use of and need for a diversity of
provisions in the areas of housing, care, welfare and transport. The housing
provisions include things such as stairless homes, home adaptations, homes
with care and service input, etc.. Care includes household or personal care
or nursing provided by the home care services, the individual's own network
or privately purchased help. Examples of welfare provisions include
counsellors for the elderly, social workers or meal services. Provisions in
the area of transport include mobility aids (rollators, wheelchairs,
mobility scooters), the individual's own car, public transport or provisions
such as the regiotaxi regional taxi service.
For this report, more than 2,700 adults with long-term physical disabilities
were asked about their experiences with these provisions and about the
process of applying for them. A unique feature of the report is that it not
only identifies which provisions these people use, but also which they need
and why they do not need some of them.
This study was carried out at the request of the Dutch Ministry of Health,
Welfare and Sport.
