Original title: Slachtoffers van criminaliteit.
More than three million people in the
Netherlands are victims of crime each year. Are all Dutch citizens equally
at risk of becoming victims? And of those who become victims, which report
the offence to the police, and what motivates them to do so? What role does
the victim play in the criminal justice process? And how afraid are Dutch
citizens generally of becoming victims of crime?
These and related questions are the focus of this publication, in which the
Netherlands Institute for Social Research/SCP presents the state of the art
as regards current knowledge about victims of crime. It provides an insight
into the position of victims, presents the current status of research in
this field and outlines the policy that is pursued in order to improve the
position of victims.
