Original title: Verklaringsmodel verpleging en verzorging 2007.
Population ageing means the demand for and take-up of care is likely to increase sharply in the coming years. Older people make particularly heavy use of home care, nursing homes and care homes, collectively referred to as 'nursing and care'. The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is therefore interested in the likely trend in nursing and care in the coming decades.
This study presents forecasts of the demand for and take-up of nursing and care services up to the peak of population ageing in 2030. The increase in demand and take-up is likely to outstrip the growth in the population as a whole, but will probably lag behind the increase in the number of people aged over 65. Take-up of these services will grow less rapidly than demand, and institutionalised care will increase more than care provided in the home setting. With regard to care in the home, a strong increase is expected in private help, while in the institutional care sector, strong growth is projected particularly in nursing homes.
