Original title: Hoe cultureel is de digitale generatie?
Many young people in the Netherlands today have grown up surrounded by new
media. Almost all of them are now also online. The Internet is part of
everyday life for today's teenagers, who use it among other things to search
for information, chat with friends and maintain pages on social networking
sites.
This report describes the use of the Internet by Dutch teenagers for cultural
purposes: to what extent do they use the Internet to search for cultural
information? Do they use the Internet to communicate about culture, and if so
how often? And to what extent do they post text, images or sound information
about cultural activities on the Internet themselves? The report also
explores how far differences in online cultural participation can be ascribed
to the digital skills of teenagers, their interest in culture and that of
their parents and friends, as well as the attention devoted to culture and
ICT at school.
