Original title: Vluchtelingengroepen in Nederland
This report describes for the first time the socioeconomic and sociocultural position of the four largest refugee groups in the Netherlands, originating from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Somalia. Virtually nothing is known about these migrants, especially in comparison with the numerically much larger minority groups of Turkish, Moroccan, Surinamese and Antillean origin in the Netherlands. The report is based chiefly on large-scale survey research which offers new information on topics such as education level and the position on the labour and housing markets. The study also explores sociocultural aspects of integration, such as contact with the native Dutch, proficiency in the Dutch language and how refugees feel about living in the Netherlands.
This study was carried out at the request of the Directorate-General for Housing, Communities and Integration at the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
In addition to staff from the Netherlands Institute for Social Research/SCP, researchers from Regioplan Policy Research and ITS also contributed to this report.
