The Dutch population is set to age rapidly in the coming years. More and more people will also attain a very great age. This means that the need for home care and care provided in nursing or residential care homes will also increase. As part of the Long-term Care Programme, the Netherlands Institute for Social Research/SCP has mapped out future trends in the Dutch nursing and care sector up to the year 2030 for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

As in previous reports, in this study the use of nursing and care services is projected to increase, but less rapidly than might be expected on the basis of population ageing.

Dr Evelien Eggink, Debbie Oudijk and Dr Klarita Sadiraj are researchers in the Public Services  sector research group at SCP. Part of their research activities entails working on forecasting models for the use of care, youth care and childcare services.
