Arts
The Dutch government has been seeking to raise public interest in the arts for more than 50 years. The government targets the entire Dutch population, with an emphasis on groups where interest levels are low, such as the young, people with a lower education level and non-Western ethnic minorities.
Visiting and practising the arts
SCP carries out continuous research commissioned by the Ministry of
Education, Culture and Science into trends in the interest in the arts. In
doing so, SCP looks not only at visits to exhibitions and performances, but
also at the practising of the arts in leisure time. In addition to SCP,
numerous universities, research bureaus and sector organisations also carry
out research into the interest in and practising of the arts.
Research at SCP
The Time, Media &
Culture research group carries out research on visits to artistic
productions and the practising of the arts by the Dutch population. You will
also find information here on current projects and recent publications. The
research on visiting the arts forms part of the long-term project Support
for culture (Het culturele draagvlak).
