Books & libraries
Reading is an indispensable skill in the information society. Today, people increasingly read from screens. This is bringing about enormous changes in the world of publishing, book sales and libraries. Up-to-date information on trends in reading is of great importance for policy, science and the market.
Trends in reading
SCP has conducted research since the 1980s on trends in the reading
of printed media - books, newspapers and magazines. SCP also regularly
produces observations and recommendations in relation to government policy.
Has the policy on books and libraries worked? Is there further room for
improvement?
Users
The emphasis in the SCP research is on the perspective of the user:
how many people read and borrow books, and how often? And how much time do
they spend reading? This SCP research complements the work of other
institutes which research focuses chiefly on the supply and dissemination of
printed media.
