Care
Care is a policy domain with several facets. It includes not only health prevention and medical services, but also support for people with a temporary or permanent impairment. That support is offered in the Netherlands under the financial auspices of the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ) the Social Support Act (Wmo) and other arrangements for the disabled, for example in relation to employment, housing, transport and income.
Two focus areas
SCP typically adopts an intersectoral respective in its research.
As a result, the emphasis in the research on care lies not only on the
perceived health and health behaviour of Dutch citizens, but also on the
lives of citizens with an impairment and their use of compensatory
provisions. The first line of research incorporates themes such as quality
of life, healthy living and explanations for the use of care. The life
situation of people with an impairment and compensatory services in relation
to learning, working, housing, transport and care are themes that fall
within the second focus area.
Medical services
Other institutes carry out research on medical services, for
example RIVM (National Institute for Public Health
and the Environment) and the Trimbos Institute.
