Employment
Employment is an important factor in people's lives. It is a source of income and prosperity, and also helps determine a person's status in society. Work also has a social function, because it provides opportunities for social contacts.
Welfare and well-being
SCP presents the most up-to-date overview possible of trends on the
labour market, including trends in the labour participation rate and the
quality of work. This information is important for policymakers. The labour
participation rate, for example, influences the prosperity of the country
(welfare), while things such as unemployment and working conditions affect
the well-being of the population. In addition, SCP devotes attention to
specific themes, such as the position of vulnerable groups on the labour
market, labour mobility and absenteeism.
Research at SCP
The Labour,
Income & Social Security research group carries out research on
employment. Regular publications such as The Social State of the
Netherlands summarise the main developments on the labour market. The Emancipation,
Youth & Family research group carries out research on the
emancipation of women; research on the labour market position of minorities
is the preserve of the Education &
Minorities research group. For more information, see also the topics Poverty,
Income,
Emancipation,
Care and
Minorities
& Integration.
