Income
The income of a household provides an indication of how much people have available to spend. Consequently, it is a good indicator of a person's level of prosperity. Income is an important component in people's well-being and is related to things such as health status, opinions on government, cultural activities and sport.
Income differentials
SCP investigates income differentials between and within population
groups. However, income is not a static given, and key events in people's
lives, such as having a child or retiring, lead to major income changes. This
income dynamic is also a topic of SCP research. In addition, SCP investigates
satisfaction levels, linked to the question of whether people have enough
income to make ends meet. This research shows for example that older persons,
despite their lower income, are more satisfied with their income than younger
people.
Research at SCP
The
Labour, Income & Social Security research group
carries out research on income and income differentials.
