Most SCP research is quantitative: analyses of large data files. These data files contain data from existing sources or from surveys. The additional use of qualitative research is growing. This research is bases on interviews and focus groups. Surveys occasionally contain open questions. The analysis of these open questions requires use of both quantitative and qualitative techniques.
Because the SCP was founded in 1974, it is well-equipped for longitudinal monitoring and analysis of trends in society.
