Professor Kim Putters (b. 1973) has been Director of the Netherlands Institute for Social Research| SCP since June 2013. He is also Professor of an endowed chair in Care Policy and Governance in a Changing Welfare State at the Institute of Health Policy & Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 2008 to 2013 he was Professor of Care Institution Management at the same Institute. He obtained his doctorate with a thesis focusing on care policy and governance.
Kim Putters was appointed as Crown-appointed Member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER) in January 2017. He is an advisory member of the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR), chairman of the youth care research program of the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw), is member of the board of the Oranjefonds, member of the curatorium of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and of the Management Center VNO-NCW De Baak. He is also a member and chairman of several curatoria of chairs at Dutch universities, including the Den Uyl chair at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and a chair of the Institute Gak at Utrecht University. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the National Youth Institute and member of the Supervisory Board of Museum Catharijneconvent.
From 2003 to 2013 he was a member of the Upper House of the Dutch parliament, and from 2011 he was First Vice-President. He was also vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party in the Upper House. From 2011 to 2013 he was chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) of members of the Upper and Lower Houses. He was a labour councillor in the municipality of Hardinxveld-Giessendam from 2002 to 2012, where he was also chairman of the labour group on the council.
